What is Voc Rehab?

Goodwill Vocational Rehabilitation “Voc Rehab” is a series of programs used to assist an individual’s transition into the workforce. Real life people needing real life services are what Goodwill is about.

The referring agency is billed for services provided and is kept informed of a client’s progress through written reports and evaluations completed by Goodwill’s Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists.

GoodGuides

The GoodGuides™ Youth Mentoring Program provides structured, supportive relationships with trusted adult mentors who help youth:

  • Build career plans and skills
  • Complete school
  • Access post-secondary training, and
  • Prepare for productive work
  • GoodGuides will provide youth with at least two hours a month of services to facilitate:
  • Career awareness
  • Career planning
  • Career navigation skills

Youth Works

YouthW.I.A. Youth Works

A 16 week program serving out-of-school youth ages 16-21, in a paid work setting. Participants gain valuable work and life skills. Participants will also receive support services such as case management and access to various educational opportunities. The long-term goal for participants is the opportunity to obtain permanent employment and/or be enrolled in a formal education program.

Veterans

U.S. FlagVeterans Employment Workshop

We offer two-day employment workshops for Veterans. During the course of a workshop, a veteran receives the resources necessary to obtain and maintain employment. Those resources include a career interest assessment, resume, cover letter, master application, interviewing skills, how to obtain job leads, and how to meet the expectations of their employer.

Summer Youth

Summer YouthSummer Youth Program

Summer Youth Programs are intended to promote a student’s transition from school to post-secondary education, vocational training, or integrated employment. Services should include an evaluation of the consumer’s vocational needs, instruction on vocational topics such as interviewing skills, work behaviors, basic job readiness skills, and independent living skills, as well as integrated community based work experiences. Staff will work with students to learn job tasks and implant skills learned through instruction. Students will be paid Ohio minimum wage for time spent on work.

Career Interest Assessment

A specialized program that assists the participant in identifying vocational assets, aptitudes, interests and potential barriers to employment. The program may include testing, community-based assessments, labor market information and occupational information.

Career Interest Assessment Workshop

A 9-hour workshop held in three (3) hour sessions. During the sessions, participants will explore career paths based on personality and strengths, identify employment barriers and devise strategies to overcome these, and create a holistically defined path to meet their employment goals within the context of their personal circumstances. The sessions consist of lectures, testing, group discussion, interactive activities, written materials and out-of-class assignments.

Community Based Assessment

Provided participants with an opportunity to sample a particular job of interest. The participant, Voc Rehab Specialist and referring counselor assess whether the individual is capable of performing specific tasks, if the goal is realistic and whether the training should continue with the particular occupational goal in mind. Assessments allow the individual to experience several different career interests.

 

 

Job Coaching

One-on-one assistance for participants involved in training programs who may need initial intensive training and/or require a specialized training approach. The coach assists in learning job duties, quantity/quality of work standards, communications skills, as well as interpersonal skills and appropriate work behaviors.

Job Development

Participants learn necessary skills to access employment opportunities and ultimately obtain employment. If needed, participants will receive Job Seeking Skill Training that includes resume development, completing job applications, identifying employment opportunities, proper work attitude, grooming/hygiene, interpersonal skills and interviewing skills.

Job Retention (90 day program)

Retention involves follow-up calls/visits to the job site. Services could include assisting the employer in problem solving with the employee, educating the employer and co-workers about the best methods to support the participant, and identifying barriers to job retention.

Participants perform a specific job of interest at a community worksite, which could lead to future employment. The program ensures a good match for the participant and employer.

Life Skills Training

Teaches behavior, interpersonal, life management and career skills. Each area has its own curriculum and workbook. Participants learn to identify and overcome obstacles in their personal and professional life that create barriers to successful employment.

Occupational Skill Training

Specialized program offering skill training for specific jobs. Participants in the program will also learn occupational safety practices and acquire workplace literacy and numeric skills. Curriculums include: janitorial, retail, clerical, daycare, computer repair, warehouse processing, light manufacturing, indoor/outdoor maintenance, auto repair, auto detailing, laundry services and food services.

Work Adjustment

Assists participants in obtaining the work behaviors necessary to gain and maintain employment in the community. Topics include proper work habits, physical/emotional tolerance, social skills, quantity/quality of work, hygiene, acceptance of supervision and safety awareness. Training may occur in a community based setting.
